And a few people were interested and took up my offer. I mean, does that statement even make sense?

This is what I sent back to them:

Now all approaches are effective, powerful, and have their place at the right time. Problems arise when we’re only aware of, and habitually use, one way.

In this case, [coaches/ teachers/ leaders/ mentors/ managers/ instructors] and [coachees/ students/ learners/ followers/ players/ athletes/ staff] must be aware of the huge bias and tendency. That of imparting knowledge to the learner as the majority strategy for improvement and change, as opposed to partnering them thorough their own learning process.

As Abraham Maslow said in 1966, “I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.”

And in reality…

  • the chance of success
  • the quality of the outcomes
  • the sustainability of change

… are what’s at stake.
